Our entire world has been impacted tremendously by the Covid-19 pandemic. Many of our 2K20 high school seniors will not be given the opportunity to have a traditional graduation ceremony because of this virus. All across the globe, people are coming together to help rebuild their communities. I prayed to God for guidance on what I could do to make a difference. He gave me the green light on my desire to start a scholarship fund in my sister's memory.
As many of you may know, on February 5, 2011, my youngest sister, Latoshia, passed away suddenly in her sleep. Latoshia was the heartbeat behind our family's laughter. She had a heart of gold and loved singing for Christ. Protecting her legacy was a vow I made to her son and daughter. Shortly after she passed away, a family friend told us about a phone conversation she had with Toshia. The family friend was having financial trouble and told told Latoshia she didn't have enough money to buy groceries. She said Latoshia admitted to being low on funds but what Tot did next was forever etched in her heart. She said Latoshia took a few packs of meat from her own freezer and made the drive to bring them to her. She didn't want them going hungry. Just like Peter who said in Acts 3:6, "Silver and gold have I none but such as I have give I thee...", Latoshia gave what she had. She gave from the heart. This testimony is what inspired the Songbird Memorial Scholarship Award.
It's amazing how a little can go a long way. When it comes to the middle-class, there is more of us than it is of the rich. Not having millions in the bank, does not mean we can't make a difference. If pool our resources together, we can make a difference.
Last week, I announced via Facebook, Instagram and Youtube Live, I was selling t-shirts (see design below) to benefit the Songbird Scholarship. My goal was to award at least one $500 scholarship in July to a deserving high school senior by selling 100 t-shirts. Shortly after the live, I received two phones calls from individuals who offered to sponsor two additional scholarships! As of now, it looks like we will be awarding three scholarships in July. We still have quite a few t-shirts to sell to meet the goal of awarding the third scholarship. That's where you come in...
